As an Editor

Everyone needs an editor because every writer needs a second set of eyes. When I work with writers–as a developmental or copy editor–my primary concerns are shape, pacing, voice, and language. I’m going to start by looking at your work and figuring out your natural language and your natural sense of form–whether that’s the college application essay or graduate school personal statement, an article being prepared for publication in a scholarly journal, or a piece of narrative non-fiction. Then I’m going to ask a lot of questions. We’ll talk. We’ll look at your work together to help you clarify your argument or your story and refine your language. As needed, I’ll also suggest or take on line-edits, and read successive drafts until everything falls into place.
